Embrace Yourself

I’ve been an introvert for most of my life. And being a shy boy who prefers sitting on a couch and reading a romance novel rather than doing sports isn’t considered very “manly” where I come from. That makes me feel inferior in gatherings where more manly boys are glorified while I wish I could be more like them.

Life would’ve been so much easier if I wasn’t so different.

But then I think . . .

I shouldn’t let someone else take the reins of my heart.

I am in control.

And I will be the kind of person that I feel content about being.

So, maybe you’re the shy boy in class, maybe you aren’t the most handsome, or you’re different in some other way, and there are people in your life who have a problem with that. It’s totally normal to get hurt when they discriminate against you for being you.

But know that sometimes, you can decide who gets to you. It’s hard to be bold against discrimination, but the peace of mind that follows makes the fight worth it.

So, maybe next time you’re going to a gathering and feel like you should wear a skin-tight T-shirt to look more manly, but you’d rather be more comfortable in a baggy one that lets you breathe, choose the baggy one.

Don’t be enslaved to what others might think.

Each of us is special in our own way, and we need to let us shine.
