Amy Wenzel



French, Social Studies, and Science.





Amy is a first year Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology student at the University of Alberta. She is an artistic and acrobatic gymnast, and in her spare time she likes to read. Amy decided to volunteer with the HYM organization because "I think that tutoring can make a huge difference in terms of academic success and that that opportunity should be available to everyone who needs it."



Allyson Wong



Math





Allyson is in the after-degree Secondary Education program at the University Of Alberta, with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Physical Education. In her spare time she loves to draw! She also loves staying active so she spends lots of time at the gym lifting weights and during the summer she goes kayaking and hiking back home in Calgary. Allyson decided to volunteer with HYM because "I believe everyone deserves to have access to education, no matter their circumstances. I also want to be able to teach students that Math can be fun!"



Angie Chen



Science





Angie is a recent graduate who has just completed an undergraduate degree in Honours Physiology. She will be starting a PhD in Oncology in the coming year. During her spare time she enjoys playing video games, but she also loves to write stories and bake as well. Angie decided she wanted to join HYM because "I really love teaching! I understand the frustration of not understanding a concept and I want to help students get through those stressful situations when there may not be others they can turn to for help."



Audrey Murphy



Math and Science





Audrey is a second-year University of Alberta student currently doing a Bachelor of Science with a Specialization in Immunology and Infection. Her hobbies include ballroom dancing with the University of Alberta Dance Club as well as hiking in the mountains when possible. Audrey chose to volunteer with Help Young Minds because "I decided to volunteer with this organization because I enjoy teaching and helping others learn is a passion of mine. As well as I am looking into possibly pursuing education as a career in the future."



Benjamin Chong



Science, Social Studies, and Math





Benjamin is a first-year Biochemistry Honors student at the University of Alberta. He loves to work out, swim, play badminton and cook. Benjamin decided to volunteer with HYM because: "I want to enable students to reach their full potential by letting them have access to resources and someone they trust."



Ella Potvin



Math, Science, and English





Ella is a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minoring in Psychology at the University of Alberta. Her hobbies include snowboarding, baking and travelling. Ella decided to volunteer with Help Young Minds because "I have a passion for teaching and I believe it education is a human right. It is very important to hold a space for children who are experiencing socioeconomic hardships to receive additional resources to better their learning."



Jane Hopkins



Social Studies, Math and Science





Jane is a third-year University of Alberta student currently doing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Her hobbies include enjoy playing sports, running, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Jane chose to volunteer with Help Young Minds because "I want to help give all students the opportunity to excel in academics. As well, I want to ensure that resources are made available to all students to help them learn more effectively. ."



Jayden Mackie



Biology, Chemistry, and Math





Jayden is a second-year University of Alberta student currently doing a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. She loves to snowboard, go on bike rides and road trips during the summer, and bake. She decided to volunteer with HYM because: "I would love to be able to empower and create opportunities for all children out there, irrespective of their financial situation. I understand that school can be difficult; however, I believe every student can thrive and succeed with the right resources and support."



Jeslin Tijo



Science





Jeslin is a third-year University of Alberta student currently doing a Bachelor of Science Honors in Psychology. In Jeslin's free time, she likes to travel, hike, cook, and play flute and piano. Jess wanted to volunteer with Help Young Minds because "I wanted to be a part of an organization that brought tutoring resources especially during the pandemic to students who would otherwise not have access to tutoring."



Junlin Feng



Chinese





Junlin is currently a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Education with a Major in General Science and a Minor in Chinese. In his spare time, Junlin loves swimming, and reading manga. Junlin decided to volunteer with HYM because "I wanted more volunteer experience with teaching ."

Kesia Muthuthotatil



Math





Kesia is currently a third-year student at the University of Alberta, majoring in Criminology. She loves to read books, go on walks and enjoy the scenery of Edmonton especially the river valley, and recently embroidery. She decided to volunteer at HYM because "I have always loved working with kids and especially helping them achieve their full potential. As someone who has had tutors before I understand how important it is to have someone who students can depend on when they are not understanding what is being taught in class and help them become confident in their abilities."



Labiba Raisa



Math and Science





Labiba is a third-year University of Alberta student currently doing a Bachelor of Science Honours in Physiology. Her hobbies include hiking and being outdoors, especially when it's raining. Labiba also likes to read and run her own jewelry business. Labiba chose to volunteer with Help Young Minds because "I believe extra education should not be limited to those who can afford it. The exchange of knowledge should be free. I've also noticed that exchanging any knowledge that I have with others enhances my own understanding and memory of the subject/concept."



Morgan Properzi



English, Social Studies, Math, and Science





Morgan is currently a fifth-year student in the Bachelor of Kinesiology/Secondary Education Combined Degree Program at the University of Alberta with a Minor in Music. Morgan loves to play recreational basketball with friends or sitting around a fire while playing the guitar and singing alone to country music. In the winter, she loves to snowboard and spend time inside with family playing board games. Morgan decided to volunteer with Help Young Minds because "As a future teacher, I have always had this inner passion to teach and educate younger students and individuals. I genuinely enjoy watching my students improve and flourish in a subject they once struggled with. I want to help students improve as I have once been in their shoes when school got difficult. I wish I had something similar to Help Young Minds when I was struggling with more difficult courses in high school."



Pooja Ahluwalia Sethi



Math and Science





Pooja is currently in her second year of her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. During her spare time she enjoys exploring the outdoors with her family, painting, and watching TV. Pooja decided she wanted to join HYM because "I love working with kids. Their enthusiasm about little things fills me with so much joy. I think I learn a lot from working with them."



Rajnandini Saha



Math, Science and Chemistry





Rajnandini is a first-year neuroscience student. Her hobbies include reading, and watching movies with friends. She also loves to go hiking and explore new cities. She enjoys listening to music and her current favourite artist is SZA! Rajnandini choose to volunteer with HYM because "I understand how stressful school can be without extra help, and I would like to give back to my community and provide helpful resources to kids who can't necessarily access them."



Timothy Garcia



Math and English





Timothy is a fourth-year student at the University of Alberta, pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a Specialization in Immunology. He spends his free time playing various sports (favourites being spikeball and basketball), playing video games, and playing the piano. He decided to volunteer at HYM because "I believe education is so important, and I know I am blessed to have opportunities in being able to educate myself through school. I wanted a chance to give back to the next generation and fine tune my leadership skills in a one on one setting."



Valencia Das



Social Studies





Valencia is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Criminology. In her spare time, Valencia loves gaming, singing, watching anime, writing songs, making digital art, and photo editing. Valencia decided to volunteer with Help Young Minds since "I was looking for an opportunity where I could get the chance to tutor kids once again. Because I did this before and I absolutely loved the experience and therefore, wanted to do it again and fortunately found an opportunity with HYM."



Virtue Ekanem



Math and English





Virtue is currently a first-year student doing a Bachelor of Science majoring in Neuroscience. In Virtue's free time, she enjoys listening to music, reading, and watching movies. She decided to volunteer with Help Young Minds since "I decided to volunteer with this organization because I would like to play a role in ensuring that educational resources are readily available to all students."



Yzabel Bauyon



Social studies and English





Yzabel is in her second year of a Political Science with a minor in Sociology degree at the University of Alberta. In her free time she loves to cook, read, and hang out with her dog. She also loves to take dance classes, mostly tap dancing. Yzabel decided to volunteer with Help Young Minds because "I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to become confident with their schoolwork and themselves."
