Help Young Minds

Allowing every child to reach for the stars

Our Executives

Kesia Muthuthotatil

President

Hi! My name is Kesia (she/her). I am in my second year of my MSc in Epidemiology. In my spare time, I love to volunteer, bake, go on walks and enjoy the scenery of Edmonton. I first joined HYM as a volunteer tutor, and later wanted to become more involved with HYM as an exec as I love and support the mission this organization has. I am so proud to be part of this amazing group which provides resources that allow students to have an equal access to educational resources and help them flourish in their abilities and studies. This year as President, I hope to continue working to find novel sources of funding, provide accessible wellness and community resources, and increase the reach of HYM!

Tim Garcia

Vice President

Hello! My name is Tim and I am in my first year of my Msc in Immunology. In my free time I love to workout at the gym, play various sports, as well as play video games from time to time. I joined HYM first as a tutor as I believe I see the value and opportunity education creates, and I wanted to ensure other children have access to education in order for them to find that opportunity for themselves. As the Vice President, I hope to be an effective facilitator of tasks such as securing funding and event planning, and play a supportive role wherever necessary within our team in an effort towards fulfilling our mission!

Virtue Ekanem

Volunteer Director

Hello! My name is Virtue, and I am in my third year doing a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Neuroscience at the University of Alberta. In my free time, I enjoy diving into a good book, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. I joined Help Young Minds because I believe educational resources should be readily available to all students regardless of their socioeconomic background, and I am honoured to be a part of an amazing team that actively works towards this goal. As volunteer director, I look forward to working alongside and supporting an incredible group of volunteers who are equally passionate about helping students thrive.

Chloe Sanderson

Volunteer Coordinator

Hello! My name is Chloe and I am in my final year of elementary education and I will be graduating in June 2025, yay! This marks my second year with Help Young Minds, and I’m excited to continue this rewarding journey of supporting students in their academic growth. At HYM, we’re dedicated to empowering students to reach their full potential through educational guidance and effective study habits, with the support from our amazing tutors. I’m honored to be part of this incredible team for another year and eager to witness our continued growth and success. In my free time, I love spending time outdoors—whether I’m fishing, playing slo-pitch, walking trails, golfing, or simply enjoying scenic views. Additionally, I love spending time with my cat, Tapioca, listening to Morgan Wallen, and diamond painting.

Keren George

Executive at Large

Hi I’m Keren, I’m in my 3rd year of Criminology at the University of Alberta. In my free time I love to read, paint, and volunteer! I joined HYM about a year ago as a tutor and immediately fell in love with the cause of this organization! I’m so honored to be a part of such an amazing team, that supports a great cause. I fully believe that all kids should have access to affordable educational resources. As the Executive at Large, I cannot wait to help facilitate events to show more people the joys of being involved in this organization!!

Katelynn Atutubo

Content Director

Hi! My name is Katelynn (she/her) and I am a fourth year with a Major in Biological Sciences and a Minor in Psychology. When I do have free time I like to go volunteer at my local animal shelter and do different kinds of art such as digital art and even 3D modelling! I joined Help Young Minds because I wanted to support the mission of helping every child receive their full potential. Specifically with my role as a content director, I have always been fascinated with the ways we can receive our education. As a child, I would focus more on educational content I find on Youtube, and learned more because I was interested in the topic. As Content Director, I not only want to make learning accessible but interesting; to give our audience passion and the drive to learn.

Jeslin Tijo

Webmaster

Hello! My name is Jeslin and I am in my fourth year at the University of Alberta doing a Bachelor of Science Honors in Psychology degree. In my free time I like to travel, hike, cook, and play flute and piano. I initially joined Help Young Minds as a tutor because I wanted to be a part of an organization that brought tutoring resources to students who would otherwise not have access to free tutoring.

I am currently the Webmaster, and I'm handling this web page! I am honored to be a part of this incredible group of people and excited to continue supporting kids in learning and discovering what they can truly achieve.
